Dementia Care Centre, Bracknell
Fatade was appointed to deliver a Carbon and Energy Reduction Strategy, alongside a comprehensive Sustainability Strategy and BREEAM Pre-Assessment, for a £9.1 million dementia care home development in Bracknell. The facility was designed to provide high-quality nursing and specialist dementia care in a comfortable, sustainable environment.
Using ApacheSim Dynamic Simulation Modelling (DSM), the design focused on achieving enhanced thermal performance through a fabric-first approach in line with Part L. Glazing specifications were carefully selected to optimise solar gains while mitigating the risk of overheating.
A low-carbon heating solution was provided via an air source heat pump system, supplying both space heating and domestic hot water. The mechanical ventilation strategy was designed to ensure consistent indoor air quality and thermal comfort, while preventing condensation, critical in maintaining a healthy care environment.
Completed in 2022, the development achieved a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating. Fatade’s integrated approach to energy efficiency, ventilation, thermal comfort, and air quality supported the delivery of a sustainable and supportive living environment, with reduced operational energy demand and long-term resilience.
